The Cedar Circle: a round house in the Friendly neighborhood

What it is

The Cedar Circle is a round house in Eugene's Friendly neighborhood, and the newest home in our collection. It's a Eugene round house vacation rental in the most literal sense: the rooms curve, the light moves around the house through the day, and the plan simply doesn't work like a normal box. There's a separate guest house on the property and a private outdoor area built around a hot tub and garden.

It isn't open yet. We're deep in the part we love most, which is figuring out what the house wants to be and then furnishing it that way, and we'll share photos as soon as they're worth sharing. The design direction

The house is 1970s Oregon architecture, the real thing: wood, curves, a relationship to the trees outside that houses from that era got right. We're keeping that. What we're adding is a thoughtful update, so it feels elevated and Pacific Northwest rather than a time capsule. Not retro. Interesting, creative, a little unexpected, and comfortable enough that you stop noticing the design and just live in it.

There's a music, art and design streak running through the whole place. Records to play, work on the walls chosen because we like it, objects that reward a second look. Sarah's aim with every home is a space that feels a little different from the ordinary and gives people room to reconnect, with the place and with each other. This one is the clearest expression of that so far, and honestly it's the direction the whole collection is heading.

The neighborhood

Friendly is one of Eugene's older residential neighborhoods, south and west of downtown, with big trees, sidewalks, and a small commercial stretch that does the job of a village center. Friendly Street Market is the daily stop for coffee, groceries, and whatever you forgot, and the Friendly Street beer garden next to it is where the neighborhood ends up on a warm evening. Both are an easy walk from the house.

From here the rest of Eugene is close. Downtown, the Whiteaker breweries and Saturday Market are minutes away, and the trails on Spencer Butte and the Ridgeline are on this side of town. What to expect

Two buildings: the round house and a separate guest house, which gives a group a genuinely different arrangement than most rentals. Some people together in the main house, someone with their own front door a few steps away. The private outdoor area sits between and around them, with the hot tub set into a garden rather than dropped on a deck.

Inside, expect the music, art and design to be part of the stay rather than decoration: a record on, a book you didn't plan to read, a chair by a curved window that turns out to be the best seat in the house. We'll publish the full details, sleeping arrangements, and photos as we finish. What we can tell you now is that we're building this one for the trips where the house is the destination, the way our other homes tend to be for the coast or the mountain.
