The Neskowin farmers market is the kind of market where the person selling you strawberries also tells you when low tide is. It's small. It's Saturday morning only. And it's one of our favorite reasons to be in town on a weekend.
When and where
The market sets up Saturday mornings from late spring into early fall, roughly mid-May through September. Hours have historically run mid-morning to early afternoon, but the season and hours shift a little year to year, so check the current schedule before you plan the whole day around it. You'll find it in the village center off Hawk Street, right by the Neskowin Trading Company and the beach access. If you're staying at The Weekender, it's an easy walk. Leave the car.
Show up early if you want the good bread. By late morning the popular booths are picked over and the parking lot is full of people who should have come at nine.
What you'll actually find
This isn't a 200-vendor city market. Think 20 to 30 booths on a good day, and that's the charm. Expect a mix of:
- Produce from Tillamook and Yamhill county farms. Berries in June and July, tomatoes and corn by August.
- Fresh and smoked seafood from local boats when the season cooperates.
- Baked goods, jams, honey, and the occasional pie that disappears within an hour.
- Cheese, eggs, and flowers.
- Local artists and crafters, usually a few with sea glass or driftwood work.
- Live music, sometimes. A guy with a guitar counts.
Bring cash. Most vendors take cards now, but the signal in Neskowin can be shy, and the honey lady does not want to wait for your phone to find a tower.
Breakfast on the deck
Here's how we do it. Walk down, buy a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, whatever fruit is peaking, and something smoked. Walk back. Cook. Eat outside while the fog burns off. The Weekender's deck faces the trees, and the hot tub is right there if breakfast turns into a lazy morning.
Neskowin has exactly one general store and a couple of places to eat, so the market is genuinely useful for stocking the kitchen, not just a cute thing to photograph. Grab enough for two days.
Make it a full Saturday
The market pairs well with a low tide. If the timing lines up, walk from the market to the beach, cross Neskowin Creek, and look for the stumps of the Ghost Forest poking out of the sand. It only shows well at low tide in the winter and spring, so this is a bonus, not a guarantee. Proposal Rock is always there. Dogs love it. Ours certainly do.
Later in the day, drive 15 minutes north to Pacific City for the dory boats and a beer at Pelican, or south to Lincoln City to hunt for glass floats. We've got more ideas on our Neskowin things-to-do page.
Bringing the dog
Dogs on leash are generally fine at the market, and it's a mellow enough crowd that nobody minds a polite one. Keep them away from the food tables and the smoked salmon booth will thank you. Water bowls appear at a few vendors. The beach afterward is the real reward.
If you miss it
Market not running, or you rolled into town on a Sunday? The Neskowin Trading Company has surprisingly good groceries, wine, and a deli for a store that size. Pacific City has a larger market on Sundays in summer. And Lincoln City has full grocery stores 20 minutes south if you need to do a real shop.
Honestly, though, the Neskowin market is worth planning around. It's the town at its best: small, unhurried, and a little salty. Check the dates, book a weekend at one of our Neskowin cabins, and bring a tote bag.
